Notes from the boat

Winding Down 2020

When is the best time to start a new nonprofit organization and passion project? I never would have answered “during a global pandemic” but here I am. The idea came to me after some life-changing events and was implemented in record time with the help of two close friends who recognized the importance of the mission and volunteered to help me get it off the ground. The next few months were a blur of discussions, paperwork and preparation for the business launch. Last week I received official nonprofit status from the IRS effective May 2020 – very exciting!

Thanks to our team’s dedicated efforts, the launch was on time and successful! The launch was very exciting and was followed by a lot of buzz and activity. Unfortunately, another spike of COVID cases has drawn attention away from projects like ours.

However, I’m pleased to announce that the first official Mother of Corals project is slated to begin in 2021. In collaboration with another nonprofit org, Coral Nation, we will be building a land-based coral nursery in Bocas del Toro, Panama for breeding corals, research and education. I’m very excited to send you updates on this important project!

Also, in preparation for Giving Tuesday (and giving season) we are selling Mother of Corals limited edition design apparel (t-shirts, tank tops and rash guards), with all proceeds supporting our organization. Please see below for more information.

Wishing you and yours a safe and warm holiday season.
